Films at Whatlington
Whatlington - Royal Oak pub
Movie buffs from the village and beyond gather at the Royal Oak once a month to view films in The Barn function room. It’s a casual and friendly gathering with the benefit of the bar close at hand – watching movies can be thirsty work! All genres and tastes are catered for: so far this year films have ranged from the heart-warming Mrs Harris Goes to Paris to the heart-wrenching Living, via The Lost King and Elvis. Special basket meals are available to order so you can chew while you view. It’s also a good chance to meet up with other villagers and form new connections. There’s an annual fee of just £12 per year – less than the cost of a ticket and a bucket of popcorn to watch just one film at mainstream cinemas. If you are interested please get in touch.

Art, Craft and Hobbies
Whatlington - Village Hall
Come and have a go at various crafts. Many local and qualified tutors hold sessions at Whatlington Village Hall on Wednesday mornings from 10-12.00pm. The group has completed sessions working on mosaics, fused glass, drawing, cyanotype, ceramics, needlecraft and art. We aim to provide a varied and extensive range of arts, crafts and hobbies. If you are interested in attending or would like to know more about these sessions please get in touch.
Community Speedwatch
Whatlington - Village
The Whatlington Community Speedwatch group has been operating for nearly 3 years and currently has 5 active members.  Community Speedwatch is a national initiative where proactive members of local communities join with the support and supervision of their local police to record details of speeding vehicles using approved detection devices. Registered keepers of vehicles exceeding the speed limit are contacted - initially with a letter explaining the potential risks and consequences of their dangerous behaviour. Repeat offenders will receive a visit from the local police, irrespective of where they live. Focused enforcement and criminal prosecution follow based on the collated evidence. Whatlington residents have for some time been angered by the antisocial or inattentive driving within the village and many feel unsafe, so the group was formed in order to improve the safety and quality of life within the community. The set up is a relaxed one where group members state when they would be available to take part in a session and then a schedule is drawn up.  We operate in pairs or more and the session only lasts for a maximum of an hour.  It is totally up to individuals to decide if they wish to take part at any time. Because more people are killed in traffic than in all other crimes combined and the result of collisions, from death and injury to grief is so devastating, there is undoubtedly a need for the group.  The roads within the village include one of the most dangerous in the country.  If you would like to know more about the project and/or are interested in joining the group please get in touch.
