The Royal Oak pub

The Royal Oak is a 15th century charming pub. The pub has a quirky old-world interior which includes a traditional inglenook fireplace, aged oak beams, exposed rafters and an 80ft indoor well.

The Royal Oak also has a lovely outside area too.

St Mary Magdalene Church

The church of St. Mary Magdalene is a warm, open and friendly Christian congregation, part of the Anglican Parish of Sedlescombe with Whatlington. Services are largely in the traditional style, the Family service is designed to be more accessible, but we do not stand on ceremony in any case. We welcome the ministry of women priests. The church is there for everyone in the village community, including for Baptism, Weddings and Funerals.

Services are held at Whatlington every Sunday, principally using the Common Worship liturgy. We offer a variety of services each month, 1st and 3rd Sundays Holy Communion at 9.15am, 2nd Sunday Family Service at 10.30am and on the 4th Sunday Evensong at 6pm summer months and 4pm in the winter, we have music at every service.

The church building is Grade II* Listed, dating from at least 1275 and with an interesting history, the village War Memorial is inside the church. The building has all modern conveniences to add to the medieval character. We have the use of both the village hall car park and a small private car park near to the church.

We operate a mailing list by email, this includes monthly updates for services and other news, anyone can sign up by emailing

Contact details for the wardens are shown on the church webpage as linked below and we are always happy to answer questions. The church building is open every Sunday and Wednesday throughout the year, between 10am and 4pm, it can be opened by prior arrangement at other times.
